  Library Closed on Fourth of July Weekend

The Butler Area Public Library WILL BE CLOSED on both Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, so that staff can celebrate Independence Day with family and friends.  The Library will re-open at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 6.

The Board and staff wish all of you a safe and happy Fourth of July! 

 

  

This year's summer reading program theme is BeCreative@YourLibrary.  The program, which will run through August 7, features a variety of programs for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. 

Registration forms are available in the children's department of the library.  You may also register online at http://host8.evanced.info/butler/sr/homepage.asp or on the designated computer in the lobby of the library.

 Join Us For Carl McGrady Artwork Dedication

Artist, Carl McGrady, has been kind enough to donate his wonderful painting, Penn's Woods, to our library, as a tribute to his parents.  Carl will be here Wednesday, June 24 at 5:30pm to officially dedicate this special piece of work.  Please join us for this special event. 

 

Come Walk With Me

Beginning July 1, local historian, Dave Allen, invites you to join him for a walk through pre-civil war-era downtown Butler.  This exciting walking tour will take place on Wednesday evenings at 6:00PM and begins in front of the Butler Area Public Library.  The tour lasts approximately two hours.  Children should be accompanied by an adult.  Dave is not charging for this history walk, but donations are accepted and appreciated.  All donations will benefit the Butler Area Public Library.

Amnesty "Happy Hour" for those Long-Overdue Books

 Beginning June 4th, every Thursday from 5pm to 6pm, our library will host a "Happy Hour" with fine amnesty on materials returned during that hour.  This is a great opportunity to bring back those long-overdue books, DVDs, or CDs and not have to pay the fines that have accumulated.

 

Butler Area Public Library to be Repository for Documents Concerning Arsenic Contaminated Soil in the Kaufman Drive Area 

To provide current information to residents in a convenient manner, DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) has established a public document file repository at the Butler Area Public Library.  This document repository will provide access to investigation files and records that will be updated on a regular basis. 

 

Coupon Club Swap

 The newly-formed Coupon Club will meet on Tuesday, June 9th at 6:30pm.  Everyone is welcome to bring their coupons to swap, share their savings tips and meet fellow clippers.

This book provides an alphabetical listing of landmarks, post offices, creeks, railroad stations, ghost towns, and other places that just aren't there anymore.  Entries are detailed with their locations, how they got their names, their significance, a brief history and name changes.  Also included is a fresh overview of Butler County with up-to-date manufacturing, agricultural, natural history and demographics information with a brief histtory of each township.  The book includes maps; footnotes; bibliography; black and white and colored photographs; and name, business, subject and locality index.
